Reliable power systems depend on ensuring the equipment is ready. From acceptance testing before initial energization to maintenance testing on operating assets, IXR verifies equipment condition, identify deficiencies, and establish confidence before systems are placed or returned into service.
Testing with a Purpose
Electrical testing is more than completing a test sheet. Results need to confirm equipment condition, verify installation and system integrity, identify and rectify deficiencies, and provide meaningful information in a timely manner to operations prior to energization and operation.
Testing programs are approached with the complete electrical system in mind and adheres to NETA standards. Field personnel work alongside owners, engineers, contractors, and operations teams to execute the work efficiently.
Power System and Equipment Testing
All inspections and testing will be performed in accordance with the applicable ANSI/NETA Acceptance Testing Specifications (ATS) or Maintenance Testing Specifications (MTS), client standards, manufacturer recommendations, and recognized industry best practices. The scope may include:
- Switchgear, switchboard, circuit breaker, and transformer testing
- Medium-voltage cable testing
- Current transformer and potential transformer testing
- Protective relay and metering verification
- Electrical equipment acceptance and functional testing
- Control, interlock, and protection scheme testing
- Power system troubleshooting and diagnostic testing
Test results will be evaluated against applicable NETA criteria and client requirements. Deficiencies, abnormal conditions, and recommended corrective actions will be documented in a formal test report to support safe energization, equipment acceptance, troubleshooting, and the ongoing maintenance history of the electrical system.
Ready for Energization
Pre-energization and acceptance testing provide a critical opportunity to find problems while they can still be addressed before equipment is placed into service.
When a deficiency or unexpected result is identified, the work moves beyond simply recording a failed test. Understanding the result, isolating the cause, coordinating corrective work, and completing the required retesting are all part of getting the system ready for energization.
Testing Throughout the Equipment Lifecycle
Electrical equipment does not remain in its original condition. Loading, switching duty, operating environment, age, and maintenance history all influence performance over time.
Maintenance electrical testing helps establish equipment condition, identify deterioration, investigate abnormal results, and support maintenance planning. Testing can be incorporated into planned outages, preventative and predictive maintenance programs, equipment upgrades, or targeted troubleshooting.
The testing approach is determined by the cable system, operating conditions, and the nature of the suspected fault.
